Arizona's Bioscience Roadmap

Biozona is the brand identity for Arizona's growing bioscience sector. The Biozona name, symbol, and tagline—"Advancing Science. Enhancing Life."—promote Arizona as a place where science thrives for the benefit of all.
The goal is to communicate three key messages about the benefits of Arizona o;s bioscience endeavor:
- Quality of life: Local access to the newest medical discoveries and top healthcare practitioners. Local research helps local patients first.
- Economic rewards: High-paying, secure jobs that create a stronger, more-diversified statewide economy. More jobs, better-quality jobs.
- The Right Ingredients: Statewide collaboration, top talent, excellence in targeted research areas, long-term strategy, and rapid progress. Collaboration accelerates research.
Why was Biozona created?
Arizona's Bioscience Roadmap recommended in 2002 that the state needed to develop a creative identity for its bioscience sector. Despite having internationally competitive assets and growing its bioscience base more quickly than perhaps any other state, Arizona continued to lack a prominent identity in the biosciences. This is essential to strengthen in-state education and awareness efforts, and market to out-of-state audiences.
The Biozona identity was launched in 2006, the result of a collaborative effort by a broad network of communications and marketing officials from more than 35 organizations integrally involved in Arizona biosciences.
Who are the organizations that are driving Biozona?
Nearly 350 individuals representing 150 organizations from both the private and public sectors throughout Arizona are helping to advance endeavors under the committee framework of Arizona’s Bioscience Roadmap. They are working collaboratively to implement the Roadmap’s recommendations and meet its long-term goals. Together, they are building and furthering Biozona along with scores of others from their organizations and beyond.
See the bottom of this page for a list of Arizona organizations with representatives serving in an official Roadmap capacity.
How is Biozona being used?
The brand is used by statewide organizations involved in the biosciences to represent Arizona's collaborative efforts. Examples: trade-show banners, collateral material, fact sheets, promotional-giveaway items, and advertisements. Individual institutions may use the logo to illustrate that they are part of a greater whole by placing the logo on their presentation materials.
